Wed Mar 19 02:30:00 UTC 2025: ## NASA Astronaut Sunita Williams Returns to Earth, Shares Space View of Kumbh Mela

**Cape Canaveral, Florida** – NASA astronaut Sunita Williams has returned to Earth after a successful nine-month mission aboard the SpaceX Crew-9 Dragon spacecraft. Williams, along with fellow astronauts Nick Hague, Butch Wilmore, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov, splashed down safely off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida, at 3:27 AM EST on Wednesday. The successful mission has sparked celebrations across the globe, particularly in India.

Adding to the excitement, Williams’ sister-in-law, Falguni Pandya, revealed in an interview with NDTV that Williams maintained contact with events on Earth, even witnessing the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from space. Pandya shared that Williams sent her a picture of the massive religious gathering taken from the International Space Station. “I spoke to her just before the Kumbh,” Pandya said. “I asked if she could see it from space and she sent me a picture.”

Williams is reportedly planning a visit to India soon, though exact dates haven’t been finalized. Pandya expressed hope that the astronaut would be in India sometime this year.

NASA confirmed the astronauts’ safe return in a press release, noting that recovery teams aboard SpaceX vessels retrieved the spacecraft and its crew at 5:57 PM EST. The successful completion of the Crew-9 mission marks a significant milestone for NASA and the international space community.
