**New Delhi, March 17, 2025** – Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat today lauded the Narendra Modi government’s efforts to recognize and honor all freedom fighters of India, including those whose contributions were previously overlooked or deliberately erased.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Shekhawat stated that the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative played a crucial role in remembering thousands of unsung heroes and correcting historical inaccuracies. He highlighted that many freedom fighters’ sacrifices had been forgotten, and others’ contributions intentionally omitted from historical accounts. The government, he asserted, actively worked to rectify this through the nationwide Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Further underscoring the government’s commitment, Mr. Shekhawat mentioned in-flight announcements by airlines commemorating the lives and contributions of select freedom fighters. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a year-long initiative, marked 75 years of Indian independence and celebrated the nation’s rich history, culture, and achievements.
