**Kozhikode, Kerala – March 17, 2025** – A 60-year-old man, identified as Sasi, died after falling into an overflowing drainage in Kovoor, Kozhikode, on Sunday night. His body was recovered Monday morning after a ten-hour search operation hampered by heavy rain and flooding.
Sasi fell into the drainage around 8:30 p.m. while walking towards a bus shelter near his home. Rescue efforts, involving local residents and fire and rescue services, spanned a three-kilometer area but were initially unsuccessful due to the severe weather conditions.
Local residents have criticized the authorities for ignoring their repeated requests for safety measures, such as protective railings along the drainage.
