Sun Mar 16 19:15:26 UTC 2025: **New Footbridge Planned for Guindy MRTS Station**

**Chennai, March 17, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced plans for a new foot overbridge at the Guindy MRTS station, aimed at improving pedestrian safety and connectivity. The ₹9.86 crore project, funded in part by the World Bank’s Chennai City Partnership initiative, will replace a British-era bridge that violates safety regulations due to its proximity to the train tracks.

The new 12-meter-wide bridge will connect all five platforms to both the eastern entrance on Race Course Road and the western entrance near the G.S.T. Road Metro station. This is intended to alleviate congestion for the thousands of commuters who use the station daily. The project, a collaboration between the GCC and Southern Railway, is expected to be completed within a year, although commuters have expressed concerns about the slow pace of current construction. The bridge will feature lifts and stairs for accessibility.
