Sat Mar 15 18:05:58 UTC 2025: ## Tribal Groups Petition Karnataka CM for Basic Resources
**Bengaluru, March 16, 2025** – The Karnataka Adivasi Hakkugala Samanvaya Samiti (KAHSS) presented a petition to the Chief Minister on Saturday, urging immediate action to protect the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) of Koraga and Hasalaru in the Western Ghats.
The petition highlights the dwindling Koraga population, which has reportedly decreased from 12,000 in 2011 to 8,000. The KAHSS is calling for a government study into the community’s decline and the implementation of protective measures. The petition also cites a rise in serious health issues among Koragas due to the non-release of health grants for the past two years, demanding the immediate restoration of these funds.
The Hasalaru community’s requests include expanding the free nutrition program to members in Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru, providing housing, securing land rights (“hakku patra”) for those residing in forest areas, establishing welfare programs for coffee estate workers, and ensuring health and livelihood security for areca nut farm laborers.
The KAHSS further proposed the establishment of “Adivasi Adalats” (tribal courts) in each district to address tribal concerns efficiently. These demands followed a national seminar on the empowerment of tribal and nomadic communities, where writer and filmmaker Baraguru Ramachandrappa stressed the importance of recognizing the diverse struggles within the over 700 registered Adivasi communities.
