Sat Mar 15 16:12:36 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Fish Market to Get Insulated Boxes to Improve Seafood Quality

**Chennai, March 15, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to provide 163 licensed seafood vendors at the Pattinapakkam Loop Road fish market with insulated storage boxes to address concerns about declining seafood quality. The new 70-liter boxes, similar to supermarket freezer units, will replace the currently used thermocol boxes, deemed unsafe for fish storage. Each vendor will receive two boxes, requiring an electrical connection available only at the designated market stalls.

However, vendors currently operate from the parking area due to ongoing disputes regarding space constraints and perceived unfair competition within the market’s design. GCC officials report holding meetings with vendor representatives to address these concerns, with further discussions scheduled for April. The corporation aims to relocate the vendors back to their assigned stalls within a tensile structure to resolve the issues. The officials acknowledged that the current stall arrangement, unlike the previous beachside setup, creates unequal visibility and potential for sales disparities among vendors.
