Sun Mar 16 13:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Indian Railways to Upgrade Sleeper and Third AC Coaches Amid Passenger Complaints
**NEW DELHI** – Indian Railways is upgrading its passenger coaches, particularly focusing on improved amenities in Vande Bharat Express trains. While improvements have been made to general and AC classes, passengers are still facing challenges in sleeper and third AC coaches.
The railway system has modernized many aspects, replacing wooden seats in general coaches with cushioned ones. However, sleeper and third AC classes remain largely unchanged, causing discomfort for passengers.
The rising use of electronic devices like laptops and smartphones during journeys has made middle berths in sleeper coaches increasingly uncomfortable, raising health concerns.
To address these issues, a proposal has been made to replace third AC coaches with two-tier sleeper and additional second AC coaches. This, along with maintaining affordable fares similar to existing sleeper and third AC prices, is expected to attract more passengers, especially during peak seasons. The proposal aims to balance passenger comfort with affordability.
