**Kansas City, MO** – The Kansas City Chiefs have added another quarterback to their roster, signing former Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew to a one-year deal, ESPN reported Thursday. Minshew will fill the backup role behind Patrick Mahomes, replacing the recently released Carson Wentz.
Minshew, 28, joins the Chiefs after a tumultuous season with the Las Vegas Raiders. Released just Wednesday after a disappointing 2023 campaign, Minshew started nine games for the Raiders, throwing for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns, and ten interceptions before suffering a season-ending injury. The Raiders’ record in games Minshew started was a dismal 2-7.
Despite his struggles last year, Minshew brings significant experience to Kansas City, having played for four NFL teams over six seasons. His best season came in 2022 with the Indianapolis Colts, where he threw for a career-high 3,305 yards. Throughout his career, he’s accumulated 68 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions.
The signing comes as Pat McAfee also discussed the Chiefs’ recent acquisition of former 49ers offensive tackle Jaylon Moore on a two-year deal. The additions of both Minshew and Moore bolster the Chiefs’ roster depth as they prepare for the upcoming season.
