Fri Mar 14 08:54:21 UTC 2025: ## Moon Landing Carries 30,000 Digital Artworks to Lunar Surface

**Hyderabad, March 14, 2025** – A Texas-based company, Firefly Aerospace, made history this month by successfully landing its first robotic spacecraft, the Blue Ghost Mission 1 lander, on the moon. This mission carried a unique payload: 30,000 digital artworks from 40 countries as part of the LunARC mission’s “Lunar Mission 1 – Community Art Gallery” project.

The LunARC initiative, a US-based non-profit, aimed to make space exploration inclusive by showcasing art from marginalized communities, refugees, people with disabilities, and everyday individuals. A significant contribution of Indian artwork was facilitated by NGO Pratham.

Among the artists represented is Priyanka Das Rajkakati, an aerospace engineer and artist based in Toulouse, France, whose work “Brahmaputra by Sunrise” is now on the moon. This is her second piece to reach space, following her earlier work, “Bhédadīpikā – An Illustration of Duality.” Rajkakati’s work combines art, technology, and business intelligence, focusing on flood warning systems.

The digital artworks were stored using Nanofiche, an advanced archival technology, and integrated into the LifeShip Pyramid payload. LunARC co-founder Lakshmi Karan emphasized the mission’s goal of demonstrating that space exploration is accessible to everyone, regardless of resources. The project’s success highlights the innovative ways technology can broaden participation in space exploration. The collection’s strong Indian presence, with many Indian-origin women playing leading roles, is also noteworthy, particularly in light of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-1 discovery of water on the Moon.
