Fri Mar 14 13:19:21 UTC 2025: ## Kanniyakumari to Get First Biodiversity Museum and Conservation Centre
**THOOTHUKUDI, March 14, 2025** – Construction is set to begin on Kanniyakumari district’s first Biodiversity Museum and Conservation Centre, located in Keeriparai. The ₹7 crore project, initially planned near the Manimuthar dam in Tirunelveli, was relocated to Keeriparai due to land acquisition challenges.
The 29,935 sq metre centre will offer visitors an immersive experience showcasing the Western Ghats’ biodiversity, indigenous tribal culture, and natural rubber plantations. Facilities will include an interpretation centre, wildlife museum, and a rubber plantation museum, along with other amenities.
Its strategic location near Thirparappu waterfall and Kalikeasam is expected to attract significant tourism. The unique architectural design, inspired by the bioluminescent Mycena Chlorophos mushroom discovered in the Kanniyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary in 2023, will seamlessly integrate with the natural landscape. The centre’s spatial planning will highlight the region’s diverse flora, fauna, and cultural heritage. The tender for the project has already been released.
