Fri Mar 14 13:56:40 UTC 2025: ## Tiruchi-Karur Highway’s Deadly Toll: Frequent Accidents Spark Concern
**Tiruchirappalli, March 14, 2025** – A surge in accidents along the 65-km Tiruchi-Karur Highway has prompted serious concerns among residents. The two-lane stretch from Tiruchirappalli to Mayanur, in particular, is proving to be a deadly trap, despite a four-lane section between Mayanur and Karur experiencing fewer incidents. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which collects tolls on the highway, is facing mounting pressure to address the issue.
Recent fatalities highlight the severity of the problem. A family of five from Coimbatore perished in a collision with a state-owned bus near Kulithalai. A police Sub-Inspector was killed while assisting accident victims, and a separate incident involving a truck and auto-rickshaw resulted in three more deaths. These are just a few examples from a long list of accidents reported across various sections of the highway, including the Tiruchi-Thindukarai stretch.
Social activist R. Thiruvengadam points to insufficient road width and speeding vehicles as major contributors to the accidents. He highlighted the particularly dangerous two-lane stretch between Mutharasanallur and Mayanur.
The NHAI claims to have recently conducted a survey to pinpoint the causes of the accidents and has already implemented short-term safety measures. However, the continued high number of accidents underscores the need for more comprehensive long-term solutions. The authority stated it would further investigate the recent accidents to determine necessary additional steps.
