Fri Mar 14 14:40:46 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Mandates Seating and Protection for Security Guards

**Thiruvananthapuram, March 14, 2025** – The Kerala Labour Minister, V. Sivankutty, has issued a directive mandating that all commercial establishments provide adequate seating, weather protection, and basic amenities for their security guards. The order, issued following concerns about guards working long hours in harsh conditions, particularly those stationed near major highways, requires employers to furnish guards with seating, umbrellas, reflective clothing, caps, drinking water, and protective eyewear.

The directive emphasizes that employers must comply with safety guidelines and ensure security guards receive minimum wages, overtime pay, leave entitlements, and other mandated labor benefits. Establishments must also be registered under the wage protection scheme. District labor officers will oversee enforcement, forming inspection squads to monitor compliance. Failure to comply will result in action against errant employers. The new regulations aim to improve working conditions for security personnel across the state.
