**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, March 14, 2025** – A Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader, Dr. Mahesh Rathod, assaulted a health official in the Jewargi Town Municipal Council on Thursday evening. The assault occurred during an ongoing week-long protest by CPI(M) activists and terminated daily wage pourakarmikas (sanitation workers) demanding their reinstatement.
Dr. Rathod, expressing frustration over the alleged inaction of officials regarding the protest, entered the office and attacked Rajashekar Hiremath, an employee in the health section. The assault, which continued outside the building, was partially captured on CCTV footage. Municipal employees are demanding Dr. Rathod’s immediate arrest. The incident follows a week of protests by terminated workers seeking their jobs back.
