Tiruchi, March 14, 2025 – Bharathidasan University (BDU) concluded a two-day conference this week focusing on the challenges and opportunities in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The conference, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, brought together experts from India and abroad.

Keynote speaker Sujoy Majumdar of UNICEF India provided a global perspective on sustainable WASH practices and reviewed India’s progress under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Other speakers highlighted the need for collaboration between academia, policymakers, and industries to address water-related challenges. Presentations covered global best practices and examined issues such as financial disparities in WASH initiatives, digital monitoring, climate change impacts, and behavioral changes in sanitation.

The conference also saw the release of a new book, “Power Sector Performance and Energy Mix in India,” authored by BDU Professor L. Ganesan and his student B. Neppolian. The book launch was attended by several university officials and experts in the water studies field. The event underscored the growing importance of sustainable WASH practices in India and the need for collaborative efforts to achieve the SDGs.
