**Vellore, March 12, 2025** – The Vellore Municipal Corporation presented its 2025-2026 budget of ₹867.50 crore on Wednesday, prioritizing infrastructure development, animal welfare, and the restoration of essential services. Mayor Sujatha Anandakumar unveiled the budget, which projects a surplus of ₹1.58 crore.
A key highlight is the planned restoration of ten Amma canteens, a significant social welfare program. The renovation will address years of wear and tear, marking the first major upgrade since their establishment in 2015-16.
Environmental initiatives are also prominent, with the creation of four new eco-parks across the city. These parks, budgeted at ₹2 crore, will feature eco-friendly designs incorporating percolation tiles for groundwater recharge. Additionally, the corporation will invest ₹94 crore in rejuvenating three irrigation tanks – Otteri, Velavadi, and Palavansathu – crucial for agriculture and domestic water supply.
Addressing the issue of stray dogs, the corporation plans a mass sterilization and vaccination program for 6,000 dogs in the first phase, at a cost of ₹1,650 per dog. This initiative aims to control the stray dog population, estimated at 42,000 within the city limits.
Further investments include the installation of CCTV cameras in all 103 municipal schools, enhancing security. A significant portion of the budget, ₹333 crore, will be allocated to water supply and drainage improvements, while education receives ₹950.13 crore.
