**New Delhi, March 13, 2025** – Members of Parliament from both the Congress and BJP raised serious concerns Wednesday over the escalating drug crisis gripping India, demanding immediate and collaborative action to combat the problem.
During the Lok Sabha’s Zero Hour, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal highlighted the devastating consequences of drug abuse, particularly in Kerala. He cited alarming statistics, including 63 drug-related murders in Kerala in the past two months and over 87,000 drug-related cases resulting in 93,599 arrests over the past four years. Venugopal emphasized the widespread fear and helplessness within communities affected by the crisis and urged a multifaceted approach involving the government, law enforcement, educators, and social workers. He also called for a crackdown on the glorification of violence in films that may influence young people.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur echoed Venugopal’s concerns, stressing that combating the drug menace requires a united front involving all stakeholders, including central and state governments, society, and educators. Both parliamentarians underscored the urgency of addressing this issue to protect India’s youth and ensure a secure future.
