TIRUPPUR, March 13, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu government is poised to approve a ₹5.15 crore redevelopment plan for the Amaravathy Crocodile Farm in Tiruppur district. The project, a joint initiative by the Forest and Tourism Departments, aims to transform the 15-acre facility, located near the Amaravathy Dam within the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.

Currently the largest wild-breeding crocodile center in South India, housing approximately 80 crocodiles, the farm will see improvements including landscaping, updated enclosures, and expanded parking. These upgrades are in response to increasing visitor numbers, particularly on weekends and holidays.

The redevelopment plan, proposed earlier this year by the Tourism Department following a visit by State Tourism Minister R. Rajendran, also includes maintaining existing amenities such as canteens and restrooms. The Forest Department will continue its efforts to educate visitors about the mugger crocodiles through informative signage. The crocodiles, which have a lifespan of 40-50 years, are fed a diet of chicken, mutton, and fish.
