Thu Mar 13 14:04:26 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Orthodox Church Condemns Government’s Support for Jacobite Church Installation

**Kottayam, Kerala – March 13, 2025** – The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) has sharply criticized the Kerala State government’s decision to send a delegation, including the Law Minister, to Lebanon for the installation of a new Catholicos in the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church. The MOSC views the government’s action as a violation of a Supreme Court ruling upholding the 1934 Malankara Church Constitution and as an endorsement of a “parallel administration.”

Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Dioscoros, head of the MOSC media wing, denounced the government’s move as an affront to democratic values and a misuse of taxpayer money. He questioned the government’s priorities, highlighting the ongoing protests by ASHA workers while representatives, including members of the opposition UDF, travel abroad for a “private event.” The MOSC demanded an explanation from the opposition regarding their support for this expenditure.

The Church emphasized its political neutrality while reminding the ruling LDF government that its stance should not be interpreted as weakness. The MOSC also criticized the government’s decision to send representatives to a ceremony that could potentially disrupt peace within the Malankara Church. The statement questioned why the government would fund a trip to an event it deems “private” and neglected the concerns of Kerala’s citizens beyond Ernakulam District.
