**COIMBATORE, March 13, 2025** – The Coimbatore Corporation has begun constructing a temporary parking facility on a three-acre vacant plot near the Ukkadam bus stand to alleviate parking woes in the area. The land, previously occupied by conservancy worker housing, is currently used informally as a parking lot and by street vendors.
The civic body has started fencing the land to prevent further encroachment. The initiative aims to address the lack of designated parking at the Ukkadam bus stand and near the Smart Cities Mission lake.
A corporation official stated that the temporary parking lot will operate until the redevelopment of the Ukkadam bus stand commences. The final decision on the land’s use hinges on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the bus stand redevelopment. If the DPR includes parking provisions, the plan will proceed accordingly; otherwise, the land will be used for fee-based surface-level parking.
