**QUETTA, Pakistan** – All 346 passengers held hostage by rebels in a train siege in southwestern Pakistan have been freed, military officials announced Wednesday. The operation, however, resulted in the deaths of 28 soldiers. The assault, claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), began Tuesday afternoon when militants attacked a train carrying over 450 passengers in Balochistan province. The BLA released a video showing the attack, which involved an explosion on the tracks followed by gunmen storming the carriages. Over 30 militants were killed during the ensuing military operation to free the hostages. The BLA, a separatist group, has been responsible for a string of recent attacks targeting security forces and outsiders they accuse of exploiting the region’s resources.
