BELAGAVI, Karnataka – March 12, 2025 – The Belagavi Police Commissioner, Iada Martin Marbaniang, has launched an inquiry into the alleged verbal abuse of a government employee by a pro-Marathi activist. A video circulating on social media shows the activist berating Nagendra Pattar, a Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) in Kinaye village, demanding he speak Marathi. When Pattar refused and continued speaking Kannada, the official language of Karnataka, the activist resorted to abusive language.
Police have identified the accused and warned that such behavior towards government officials will not be tolerated. Stern action will be taken against the individual.
Pro-Kannada activists, including Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Deepak Gudaganatti, have demanded swift action. Gudaganatti alleges the accused is an office-bearer of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti. The KRV plans to visit Kinaye village on March 13th to commend the PDO for his adherence to using Kannada.
