**Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, March 12, 2025** – Following the rape of a foreign tourist and a homestay owner in Hampi on March 6th, Chikkamagaluru district police conducted surprise inspections of homestays and resorts across the district on March 11th and 12th. Police inspectors and sub-inspectors checked for adequate security measures, including CCTV cameras and sufficient staff, to ensure the safety of guests, particularly foreign tourists.
The inspections, ordered by Superintendent of Police Vikram Amathe, involved unannounced visits to establishments within each officer’s jurisdiction. Owners were advised on necessary safety precautions. A meeting with homestay and resort owners is scheduled for March 13th at the Zilla Panchayat hall to further discuss safety protocols. The initiative aims to prevent similar incidents and improve tourist safety in the region.
