Wed Mar 12 15:13:33 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Affirms Support for Multilingualism, Opposes Hindi Imposition
**Thiruvananthapuram, March 12, 2025** – Amidst the ongoing dispute between the Tamil Nadu government and the central government over a three-language policy, Kerala has reiterated its commitment to multilingualism while firmly rejecting the imposition of Hindi. Kerala Higher Education Minister R. Bindu stated on Wednesday that the state actively encourages students to learn foreign languages, citing the recently established Centre of Excellence for Language Networking as evidence.
While emphasizing the state’s long history of embracing linguistic diversity due to its coastal location and interactions with various foreign groups, Minister Bindu stressed that Kerala’s support for multilingualism does not equate to accepting the forceful imposition of Hindi. She highlighted Malayalam’s prominent role in the state’s educational system while advocating for the inclusion of multiple languages in the curriculum.
