Wed Mar 12 10:08:32 UTC 2025: ## Sudha Murty Supports Three-Language Policy Amidst Tamil Nadu Opposition

**New Delhi, March 12, 2025** – Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty has voiced her support for the three-language policy embedded within the National Education Policy (NEP), sparking further debate on the contentious issue. Murty, citing her own multilingualism, stated that learning multiple languages is beneficial for children. Her comments follow ongoing tensions between the Tamil Nadu government and the central government over the policy’s implementation.

Tamil Nadu opposes the three-language formula, viewing it as a veiled attempt to impose Hindi. The state insists on retaining its two-language policy (Tamil and English), and has threatened to defy the central government’s demand for compliance to receive funds allocated under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram criticized the policy, arguing that Tamil Nadu’s existing bilingual system adequately serves its needs. He called the imposition of a third language “completely unacceptable.” Fellow Congress MP Jebi Mather echoed these sentiments, accusing the BJP of using language to divide society and highlighting the sensitivity of the linguistic issue.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan earlier refuted opposition claims that the government aims to divide the country through language, asserting that the Modi government would never engage in such actions. The debate continues, highlighting the deep-seated cultural and political sensitivities surrounding language policy in India.
