**New Delhi** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP government in Delhi of failing to deliver on its pre-election promise to provide free cooking gas cylinders to women for Holi. AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi questioned the BJP’s commitment at a press conference today, demanding clarification on whether the promise, made in the February 5th Assembly election manifesto, will be fulfilled. The manifesto pledged to offer cylinders for Rs 500 with two free refills on Holi and Diwali to women from economically weaker sections.
Atishi highlighted the BJP’s Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, a Rs 5,100 crore scheme promising Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to women, which, despite approval, remains unregistered. She drew a parallel, suggesting the gas cylinder promise might also be unfulfilled, similar to the delayed financial assistance.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva countered the accusations, stating that unlike the AAP, the BJP doesn’t make promises without proper financial planning. He asserted that the free LPG cylinders will be provided to needy women on priority during Holi and Diwali, emphasizing that the AAP’s criticism stems from its own government’s alleged corruption. Sachdeva dismissed the AAP’s concerns as an attempt to distract from their own failings. The clash highlights the ongoing political sparring between the two parties in Delhi.
