Tue Mar 11 20:10:28 UTC 2025: ## India Repatriates Hundreds Trapped in Myanmar Scam Centers
**New Delhi, March 12, 2025** – The Indian Air Force has successfully evacuated 283 Indian nationals from fraudulent call centers operating along the Myanmar-Thailand border. These individuals were lured to Southeast Asia with fake job offers and forced into cybercrime, including credit card fraud and cryptocurrency scams.
The victims, trapped in a compound within K.K. Park, a known fraud factory and human trafficking hub in Myawaddy, Myanmar, were rescued following a multinational crackdown on criminal gangs operating in the area. Another Air Force plane is scheduled to bring back more Indians in the coming days.
The Indian government is actively working to repatriate all those ensnared by these scams. Multiple agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), are investigating the syndicates involved. The NIA is already investigating human trafficking networks, having conducted raids last November across several Indian states. These investigations uncovered instances of “cyberslavery,” where victims’ passports were seized, and they endured physical and mental abuse.
The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) is also probing the matter and will interview the repatriated victims to gather further information on the international connections of these criminal networks. Previous efforts have seen the Indian Embassy in Laos rescue over 400 nationals. The CBI is investigating whether any of the currently active cybercrime cases are linked to the syndicates operating in Southeast Asia. The repatriation effort highlights the ongoing struggle to combat human trafficking and cybercrime, particularly the targeting of Indian citizens with fraudulent job opportunities abroad.
