Tue Mar 11 13:17:32 UTC 2025: ## Lilavati Hospital Alleges ₹2,100 Crore Embezzlement by Former Trustees

**Mumbai, March 8** – Lilavati Hospital, a prestigious Mumbai medical institution, has filed fresh complaints alleging a massive ₹2,100 crore embezzlement by its former trustees. The Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust claims the siphoning of funds, spanning years, has severely impacted the hospital’s services.

A first information report (FIR) was initially filed in July 2024, but the alleged embezzlement dates back to 2001. A recent forensic audit confirmed significant financial irregularities, leading to the March 7th filing of a fresh complaint with the Bandra police and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

According to Parambir Singh, the hospital’s Executive Director and former Mumbai Police Commissioner, the implicated trustees are believed to be residing in Belgium and Dubai. The allegations extend beyond financial fraud, with claims of witchcraft being investigated. Police have reportedly found eight urns containing human remains beneath the former trustees’ office, which have been seized as evidence.

The audit uncovered large-scale fund diversion, illegal transactions, fraudulent investments, and kickbacks. Separate investigations are underway concerning a theft at the hospital’s Gujarat facility and an Income Tax Department claim of over ₹500 crore in fraudulent expenses by the former trustees.

“The gross misconduct and financial misappropriation…is not just a betrayal…but a direct threat to the very mission of our hospital,” stated Permanent Resident Trustee Prashant Mehta, emphasizing the Trust’s commitment to holding the responsible parties accountable and urging swift action from the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This is being described as the largest scam ever in India’s medical sector.
