Tue Mar 11 04:05:47 UTC 2025: ## IndiGo A321 Suffers Another Tail Strike, Grounded in Chennai

**Chennai, India –** An IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft experienced a tail strike while landing at Chennai airport on Saturday, March 8th, prompting a DGCA investigation and grounding the plane for repairs. This incident marks the latest in a series of similar occurrences involving IndiGo’s A321 fleet.

The airline confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft will remain out of service until cleared following a thorough inspection. While no injuries were reported, the tail strike – where the aircraft’s tail makes contact with the ground during landing – necessitates a comprehensive assessment to ensure airworthiness. IndiGo emphasized its commitment to safety and apologized for any inconvenience caused by subsequent flight cancellations.

This incident follows four previous tail strikes involving IndiGo A321s between January and June 2023. These earlier incidents, which occurred at various airports across India, resulted in the DGCA conducting a special audit. The audit uncovered systemic deficiencies in IndiGo’s operational and training procedures, leading to a Rs 30 lakh fine imposed on the airline last July. In response, IndiGo revised its training programs and operational guidelines. The DGCA has also suspended pilots involved in some of the previous incidents. The ongoing investigation into Saturday’s tail strike will determine if further action is required.
