Tue Mar 11 04:20:00 UTC 2025: ## NBA Star Stephen Curry Takes on Unique Role: Assistant GM at Davidson College

**Davidson, NC –** Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is breaking new ground, becoming the first active player in a major U.S. professional sport to take on an administrative role with an NCAA team. Curry, a Davidson College alumnus, will serve as an assistant general manager for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

In his new position, Curry will leverage his extensive experience at both the collegiate and professional levels to guide the programs, working alongside general manager Austin Buntz. This appointment marks a significant commitment from Curry, who played three seasons at Davidson before becoming an NBA star.

The announcement also revealed a substantial financial commitment to Davidson basketball. Curry, his wife Ayesha, and longtime supporters Don, Matt, and Erica Berman are establishing an eight-figure fund to benefit both the men’s and women’s programs. Matt Berman, a former Davidson soccer player, will also serve as an assistant GM.

“The Davidson experience is top notch,” Curry stated. “I want very talented, high-character student-athletes to have that same experience.”

Curry’s decision follows a similar move by retired NFL quarterback Andrew Luck, who accepted a general manager position at Stanford University last year. This appointment underscores Curry’s deep connection to his alma mater and his desire to give back to the institution that played a pivotal role in his success.
