Mon Mar 10 15:00:35 UTC 2025: ## Heavy Rainfall Warning Prompts Thoothukudi District Alert

**THOOTHUKUDI, March 10, 2025** – Thoothukudi district is bracing for heavy rainfall following an orange alert issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. The alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on March 11, prompted a meeting chaired by Collector K. Elambahavath with district officials today. A yellow alert has also been issued for isolated heavy rainfall across the district.

The impending rain is attributed to an upper-level circulation over the northeastern Indian Ocean and the southwest Bay of Bengal. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has advised residents in several vulnerable areas, including those near the Marudhur and Srivaikuntam anicuts, along the Thamirabarani river (from Kaliyavur to Punnaikayal), and the Korapallam tank area, to avoid bathing in the river and stay away from riverbanks. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea.

The district administration has established several helplines for emergency assistance: the District Emergency Operation Centre (toll-free 1077, landline 0461-2340101, and mobile numbers 9486454714 and 9384056221).
