**Hyderabad, March 9, 2025** – Rescue teams have recovered the first body from the debris of a collapsed tunnel in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. Over two weeks after eight people went missing inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel near Domalapenta village, the body was discovered Sunday evening.
The body, found deep within the debris, was located with the help of a cadaver dog and ground-penetrating radar. Officials state that the recovery involved challenging conditions, with the last 50-70 meters of the tunnel filled with 3-9 meters of mud and debris, including parts of the damaged tunnel boring machine (TBM). Technicians from the South Central Railway (SCR) worked to remove sections of the TBM, enabling access for rescue teams.
Three excavators are now being used to expedite the search, focusing on areas identified by the sniffer dogs. Officials remain hopeful that more bodies will be recovered. The recovered body is being transported to a hospital for identification and legal procedures.
