KANSAS CITY, MO – Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans found dead in a backyard last January. Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson face charges of distribution of a controlled substance and three counts of involuntary manslaughter following a forensic investigation into the deaths of David Harrington, 37, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and Ricky Johnson, 38.
The three men were discovered deceased on January 9, 2024, at a Kansas City rental home owned by Willis, where they had gathered to watch a Chiefs game. Initial reports indicated no foul play was suspected, but toxicology reports later revealed the presence of fentanyl and cocaine in their systems.
Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd announced the arrests on March 5th, stating that police found two bags of white powder at the scene – one containing cocaine, the other fentanyl. DNA evidence linked Willis to the cocaine bag and Carson to the fentanyl bag, according to the probable cause statement. Witness testimonies corroborated the use of cocaine at the gathering.
Willis’ attorney maintains his client’s innocence, asserting his unawareness of the events leading to the deaths and expressing anticipation for a full hearing of the evidence. Each charge against Willis and Carson carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Both are currently being held on $100,000 cash bond. The investigation, initially shrouded in mystery, has now concluded with criminal charges related to the alleged distribution of the drugs that caused the fatal overdoses.
