Fri Mar 07 23:51:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Budget Session to Begin, ₹3 Lakh Crore Outlay Anticipated

**Hyderabad, March 8, 2025** – The Telangana State Legislature’s budget session is set to commence on March 12th, with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s address scheduled for March 12th, followed by a Motion of Thanks discussion the next day. This session holds significant importance, particularly concerning the state’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, which is speculated to surpass ₹3 lakh crore for the first time. This would represent a 5-7% increase over the current fiscal’s ₹2.93 lakh crore outlay, factoring in inflation.

While the Finance Department remains tight-lipped on the exact figure, the upcoming budget faces challenges. Revenue projections for the current fiscal year (2024-25) are falling short, with several key departments failing to meet 75% of their targets by February. Specifically, Stamps and Registration department revenue is significantly below projections (₹13,000 crore against a projected ₹18,228 crore), and non-tax revenue and grants are also lagging. Meanwhile, expenditure on pensions and interest payments has already exceeded budget estimates.

The government now faces the task of balancing allocations to key sectors with the substantial spending on ongoing welfare schemes. The session will also see the introduction of key legislation, including proposals to increase BC reservations to 42% in local bodies, education, and employment, and a bill classifying scheduled castes into three groups for improved representation. The budget session will therefore be crucial in determining the state’s financial direction for the coming year.
