Sat Mar 08 00:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Giants’ Quarterback Search Intensifies: Stafford Pursuit Fails, Ward and Sanders Emerge as Top Targets

**East Rutherford, NJ** – The New York Giants’ quest for a franchise quarterback continues after their pursuit of Matthew Stafford ended unsuccessfully. Despite offering a lucrative contract reportedly in the $50 million per season range, Stafford opted to remain with the Los Angeles Rams.

General Manager Joe Schoen, who vowed to explore all avenues to find a quarterback, is now shifting focus to a two-pronged approach: acquiring a veteran stopgap and drafting a young prospect. While Aaron Rodgers, Sam Darnold, Russell Wilson, and potentially Kirk Cousins are being considered as veteran options, the Giants’ primary focus remains securing a young quarterback through the draft.

The team is reportedly exploring a trade to acquire the number one overall pick from the Tennessee Titans, with Miami’s Cam Ward widely considered the top quarterback prospect in what is viewed as a relatively weak draft class. League sources suggest the Giants believe Ward to be a superior prospect to Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, although Sanders has reportedly generated some internal interest within the Giants organization. Sanders himself expressed enthusiasm about playing in New York.

If the trade for the first pick fails, the Giants plan to either move up in the later stages of the first round or select a quarterback on day two of the draft. Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart and Texas’ Quinn Ewers are considered strong contenders in this scenario.

The Giants have already met with Ward at the NFL Combine and plan further meetings with both Ward and Sanders. Schoen emphasized the importance of selecting a quarterback capable of handling the immense pressure and scrutiny that comes with playing in New York. The team’s evaluation process will continue throughout the pre-draft process, with Schoen and his staff attending most top quarterback Pro Days. The NFL Draft takes place on April 24th.
