Wed Mar 05 23:11:00 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra Delays Increase in Women’s Welfare Payment; 2.52 Crore to Receive Pending Installments

**Mumbai, March 6, 2025** – The Maharashtra government will not alter the eligibility criteria for its Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana (My Daughter, My Sister Scheme), Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare confirmed Wednesday. Approximately 2.52 crore women will receive pending January and February installments by March 8th.

Tatkare addressed concerns raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Council regarding a pre-election promise to increase monthly payments from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100. She stated that this increase is contingent upon approval from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers, and that implementation will not occur in the current budget. The election manifesto promise, she clarified, applies over the five-year term.

Opposition members, including Anil Parab, Satej Bunty Patil, Bhai Jagtap, and Shashikant Shinde, questioned the delay and the scheme’s implementation. Tatkare maintained that the eligibility criteria remain unchanged, citing the removal of approximately 120,000 women who exceeded the 65-year age limit and those who relocated out of state after marriage. She asserted that 2.5 crore women currently benefit from the scheme, resulting in positive changes in their lives. The government continues to scrutinize applications based on established criteria. While 2.63 crore women initially applied, only 2.52 crore currently meet eligibility requirements.
