Wed Mar 05 23:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Experiences Sudden Temperature Dip After Unseasonably Warm Spell
**NEW DELHI:** Delhiites have experienced a rollercoaster of temperatures in recent days, swinging from unseasonable warmth to a sudden chill. After several days of soaring temperatures due to intense sunshine, a significant drop has been recorded thanks to strong, cold winds.
Wednesday saw maximum temperatures reach only 25°C, 2.4°C below normal, and minimum temperatures settling at 11.8°C, 1.6°C below normal. These drops are attributed to strong winds (20-40 kmph) and partly cloudy skies. Skymet Weather, a private forecasting agency, attributed the colder conditions to chilly winds blowing down from the snow-capped Himalayas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts similar conditions for Thursday, with a maximum temperature around 29°C and a minimum of 13°C. Despite the winds, air quality remains moderate.
The sharp temperature drop is a result of strong, 40 kmph winds from the west, carrying cold air from the recently snow-covered Himalayas. This cooler weather is expected to persist until March 6th, after which temperatures are predicted to rise again.
The fluctuation follows an unusually warm end to February, with a peak of 32.4°C recorded on February 26th. A subsequent western disturbance caused a dramatic temperature plunge, with a maximum temperature drop exceeding 7°C. The minimum temperature, which had unusually reached 19.5°C, also fell sharply, reaching 9.6°C by March 3rd – a 10°C drop in just four days. This created a significant diurnal temperature variation, with the daily high reaching 31.1°C on the same day.
