Wed Mar 05 23:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhiites Shiver as Unexpected Cold Snap Delays Spring’s Arrival
**New Delhi, March [Date]:** Delhiites are experiencing an unexpected chill as March begins, with temperatures significantly lower than expected. Instead of the anticipated summer heat, a cold snap brought on by cool northwesterly winds from the Himalayas has residents reaching for their sweatshirts and turning down their fans.
While daytime sunshine offers some warmth, strong surface winds prevent temperatures from rising significantly. The minimum temperature Wednesday was 15.6°C, 2°C below normal, a stark contrast to the 9.6°C recorded the previous day. This increase, according to weather analysts, is due to overnight cloud cover which trapped heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes the cooler-than-expected weather to the cloud cover and the strong, cold winds. Tuesday’s maximum temperature was 27.5°C, down from 31.1°C the day before. The IMD predicts this cooler weather will persist for another two to three days.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Meteorology and Climate Change, IMD, stated that the temperature will remain low due to strong cold winds from the mountains for at least two more days. However, he anticipates a temperature rise around March 9th due to a western disturbance, potentially bringing light rain. This means Holi celebrations will likely be warmer.
The IMD advises residents to take necessary precautions to maintain their health during this fluctuating weather. The unexpected cold snap serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of Delhi’s weather, even as spring approaches.
