Wed Mar 05 07:40:00 UTC 2025: **Demi Moore’s One-Word Oscar Reaction: “Nice”**

LOS ANGELES – Demi Moore’s hopes for an Oscar win were dashed Sunday night when Mikey Madison took home the Best Actress award for her role in “Anora.” Moore’s reaction, captured on video, was a curt “nice,” delivered without a smile and with visible signs of disappointment, according to lip reader Nicola Hickling.

The 62-year-old actress, nominated for her performance in “The Substance,” appeared visibly tense as Madison, 25, was announced as the winner. Madison, known for her role in “Scream,” gave an emotional acceptance speech, thanking her fellow nominees, the film’s crew, and dedicating the award to the sex worker community, the subject of “Anora.”

“Anora,” a film directed by Sean Baker, swept the 97th Academy Awards, also winning Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. While “The Substance” didn’t win Best Picture, it did secure the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Moore had previously won a Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and Satellite Award for her performance in “The Substance.” The other nominees for Best Actress were Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”), Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”), and Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”).
