Wed Mar 05 05:38:11 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Tunnel Collapse: Rescue Efforts Continue, Eight Still Missing
**Nagarkurnool, Telangana –** The agonizing wait continues for the families of eight workers trapped inside a collapsed tunnel in Telangana. Eleven days after a section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapsed on February 22nd, rescue efforts are ongoing, though hampered by significant challenges.
The 13.9 km tunnel suffered a roof collapse approximately 14 km from the entrance, trapping the workers beneath debris and mud. While a crucial conveyor belt system was restored on March 4th, enabling more efficient removal of silt, clearing the remaining debris, including metal pieces and rocks, remains a major obstacle. The damaged tunnel boring machine (TBM) further complicates the operation.
Progress has been made, with officials reporting that the conveyor belt is currently functional up to 10 km, with trials underway to extend its reach to the collapse site. Metal debris is being removed using locomotives and excavators. Despite these efforts, locating the missing workers remains elusive.
Rescue teams, comprising the Indian Army and multiple agencies, are working around the clock, utilizing heavy equipment and operating in both day and night shifts. The Nagakurnool district collector has inspected the food provisions for the rescue teams.
While the debris removal is progressing, the sheer volume of material and the challenging conditions continue to impede the search for the trapped workers. The families anxiously await further developments.
