Wed Mar 05 15:30:23 UTC 2025: **Bengaluru to Get Greater Bengaluru Authority, Recommends Review Committee**
**Bengaluru, March 5, 2025** – A joint review committee of the Karnataka legislature has recommended the establishment of a Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to govern the proposed seven city corporations of Bengaluru. The recommendation, headed by Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad, is part of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, 2024.
The GBA, which will be chaired by the Chief Minister with the Bengaluru Development Minister as vice-chairman, will have wide-ranging powers, including planning, executing, and administering schemes and major projects across the city. It will also coordinate and supervise public authorities and prepare the budget. An executive committee, chaired by the Bengaluru Development Minister or a minister nominated by the Chief Minister, will assist the GBA in its functions.
The Bill also proposes the creation of sectoral expert committees to advise the GBA on urban planning, infrastructure, environment, social inclusion, and other key areas. The GBA will also be responsible for finalizing common cadre and recruitment rules for itself and the city corporations in consultation with the respective commissioners.
The proposed structure aims to streamline governance and administration across the expanded Bengaluru metropolitan area.
