Tue Mar 04 19:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Malayalam Film “Marco” Banned From Television for Excessive Violence

**CHENNAI, INDIA –** The Malayalam action film “Marco,” currently streaming on SonyLIV, Prime Video, and Aha Video, has been banned from television broadcast by the Film Certification Board (CBFC) due to its high level of violence. The CBFC rejected the film’s application for satellite certification, citing concerns over the excessive violent content.

While the film is available on multiple OTT platforms, the ban marks a significant setback for its distribution. A suggestion has even been made to the CBFC to extend the ban to OTT platforms as well, although this request is currently pending.

Producer Shereef has pledged to reduce violence in future productions, stating, “We will reduce the violence in our upcoming films.” However, this statement hasn’t influenced the CBFC’s decision regarding “Marco”‘s television broadcast.

The CBFC’s actions come as part of a planned initiative to implement stricter certification guidelines, limiting the amount of mature content allowed in films. The board aims to edit or remove excessive violent scenes while preserving narrative integrity. The move indicates a broader shift toward tighter regulations on violent content in Indian cinema.
