**BEIRUT/JERUSALEM** – Israel launched an airstrike in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, killing Khodr Said Hashem, a senior Hezbollah naval commander. The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted Hashem due to his involvement in activities that violated a November ceasefire agreement and posed a threat to Israel.
A statement from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) identified Hashem as a commander of Hezbollah’s naval unit. The strike occurred near the town of Qana. The IDF asserted that Hashem’s actions constituted a “blatant violation” of the understandings reached between Israel and Lebanon.
