Tue Mar 04 17:26:50 UTC 2025: ## Madurai Chamber Demands Immediate Installation of Iconic Fish Fountain

**Madurai, Tamil Nadu –** The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is demanding the immediate installation of a historic 15-foot, three-tonne brass fish fountain at its designated location near the Kattabomman statue in Madurai. The fountain, a symbol of Madurai’s Pandya dynasty heritage, was originally installed near Madurai Junction in 1999 by the Chamber, but removed in 2022 due to railway expansion.

Following a court order directing its reinstallation near the Kattabomman statue, and the Corporation Council’s approval of the site, the Madurai Corporation is now reportedly planning to install a much smaller, four-foot fountain elsewhere. This action has been condemned by the Chamber as a violation of the court order.

Chamber president N. Jegatheesan stated that the Chamber maintained the fountain for 23 years and will not accept any alternative location. He urged the Corporation to swiftly facilitate the installation at the court-approved site, dismissing the Corporation’s claim that the installation must wait for a Chief Minister’s video conference inauguration of a nearby Tourism Information Center. The Chamber intends to pursue the matter until the original court order is fulfilled.
