Tue Mar 04 15:05:18 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Families Share Iftar Amidst Ruins, Defying Devastation During Ramadan
**Rafah, Gaza Strip** – Despite the widespread devastation caused by the recent conflict, families in Gaza are defiantly embracing the spirit of Ramadan, sharing Iftar meals amidst the rubble of their homes. Hundreds gathered in Rafah and Beit Lahiya for communal Iftars, transforming scenes of destruction into spaces of resilience and unity.
In Rafah, a red-covered table stretching hundreds of meters wound through the debris of a neighborhood reduced to almost nothing by Israeli bombardment. Organized by resident Malak Fadda, the event aimed to bring joy back to the community. Music, flags, and festive lighting provided a stark contrast to the surrounding destruction. Fadda described the deep sadness felt by residents but emphasized their determination to reclaim a sense of normalcy.
Similar scenes played out in Beit Lahiya, where dozens gathered to break their fast among half-collapsed buildings. Mohammed Abu al-Jidyan, speaking amidst the ruins, expressed unwavering resolve, stating, “We are eating Iftar on our land, and we will not leave this place.”
The UN reports that the conflict displaced almost the entire population of Gaza and triggered widespread hunger. While a January 19th truce has allowed increased aid flow, hundreds of thousands remain displaced, many living in tents among the rubble of their homes. These communal Iftars highlight the unwavering spirit of the Gazan people as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives during the holy month of Ramadan.
