**CHENNAI, March 5, 2025** – A team of doctors at SRM Global Hospitals in Chennai has successfully performed a complex thoracoscopic meshplasty on a three-day-old infant diagnosed with a congenital left diaphragmatic hernia. The minimally invasive procedure involved a small incision to reposition displaced abdominal organs and the use of a surgical mesh to repair the diaphragm, enabling proper chest organ development.
According to a hospital press release, the successful surgery represents a significant achievement, particularly given the newborn’s age and the size of the defect. P. Sathyanarayanan, president of the SRM group, attributed the success to advancements in neonatal diagnostics, critical care, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. The surgery was performed by pediatric surgeons M. Saravana Balaji and N. Prathiba.
