**Patna, March 5, 2025** – The Bihar Legislative Assembly witnessed a fiery exchange today between Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav (RJD) and ruling NDA leaders during the discussion on the Governor’s address. The debate centered on the recently presented state budget and the history of reservation policies in Bihar.
Yadav criticized the NDA government’s budget, claiming it failed to deliver on key promises such as a ₹2,500 monthly allowance for women and 200 units of free electricity. He accused the government of missed opportunities and predicted its imminent downfall. He highlighted the RJD’s commitment to these promises should they return to power. Yadav further credited Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi with expanding reservation quotas during their tenure, mentioning increases from 12% to 18% and the RJD’s 2023 attempt to increase it to 65%, which was later overturned by the courts. He also launched a personal attack on Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, questioning his political allegiances.
In response, Choudhary vehemently defended the NDA government, accusing Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi of widespread corruption and neglecting the people of Bihar. He countered Yadav’s claims about reservation, asserting that the Nitish Kumar government had made significant strides in this area. Choudhary also revealed a personal history with Lalu Prasad, mentioning imprisonment at the hands of the former CM.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who arrived later, joined the fray, criticizing the RJD’s rule from 1994 to 2005 and claiming he had personally aided Lalu Prasad’s rise to power.
The heated exchange dominated the assembly proceedings, highlighting the deep political divisions in Bihar ahead of future elections.
