**Hyderabad, India –** A 35-year-old software engineer, Devika, was found dead by suicide at her Hyderabad home on Sunday night, six months after her wedding. Her husband, Satish, also a software engineer, reported the incident to police, stating she had hanged herself.
Devika and Satish, former colleagues, married in a lavish ceremony in Goa last August. However, Devika’s family has filed a complaint with the Raidurgam police station, alleging that Satish subjected her to dowry harassment, leading to her suicide. According to the complaint filed by Devika’s mother, Ramalakshami, a fight occurred between the couple on Sunday night before Devika locked herself in a room. Satish reportedly found her deceased after she failed to respond to his calls.
Police have launched an investigation into the allegations of dowry harassment. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about the prevalence of dowry-related violence in India.
