Tue Mar 04 15:00:45 UTC 2025: ## Sewage and Rainwater Swamp Entrance to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital

**THOOTHUKUDI, March 4, 2025** – A mixture of sewage and rainwater has created unsanitary conditions at the entrance of the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital, causing significant inconvenience to patients, visitors, and staff. The stagnant water, which has persisted for several days following recent unseasonal rains, emanates a foul odor and poses a health risk.

The problem stems from a sewage leak from a nearby Corporation sanitation complex, which has combined with accumulated rainwater near the hospital’s entrance. This has forced two-wheeler drivers to park on the road, obstructing traffic and delaying ambulances.

Local shopkeepers report that despite informing Corporation officials, no action has been taken to rectify the situation. The issue is impacting the Amma Unavagam (a government-run canteen), a Corporation ward office, and Rajaji Park, all located near the hospital entrance.

Rajapandi, Sanitary Officer of Thoothukudi Corporation’s West Zone, has stated that the issue will be addressed. However, the lack of prompt action has raised concerns about the Corporation’s responsiveness to public health issues. The ongoing problem underscores the need for improved sanitation and infrastructure maintenance around the vital medical facility.
