**Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu – March 4, 2025** – Anganwadi workers in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, staged a protest today against the mandatory use of the Poshan Tracker App and the TN Anganwadi App, citing excessive workload and exclusion of beneficiaries due to biometric data collection requirements.
The Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Workers Association demanded the scrapping of the mandatory biometric data capture for pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under six, and adolescent girls. Protestors argued that the system adds significant burden to their already heavy workload and prevents some beneficiaries from accessing services. They specifically highlighted the impracticality of biometric identification as a prerequisite for providing midday meals to children under five.
In addition to the app concerns, the association also called for promotions for Anganwadi workers who joined service in 1993 and demanded the filling of numerous vacancies across Anganwadis to alleviate staff shortages, where workers often cover multiple centers simultaneously.
