Sun Mar 02 14:40:26 UTC 2025: ## Contract Workers Continue Protest at Mettur Thermal Plant, SI Suspended in Salem, Five Boys Arrested for Sexual Assault in Krishnagiri

**Salem, March 2, 2025** – Over 100 contract workers at the Mettur thermal plant continued their sit-in protest for a third day on Friday, demanding job regularization and equal pay. The protest has garnered support from local politicians, including representatives from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi. Workers vow to continue their demonstration until their demands are met.

In separate news from Salem, a sub-inspector, Karuppannan (55), has been suspended following the viral spread of an audio recording allegedly capturing him demanding a bribe from an illegal liquor seller. An inquiry led to the suspension order issued by the district Superintendent of Police on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in Krishnagiri, five boys aged 13 to 15 were arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting two young sisters, aged 13 and 9. The arrests followed a complaint filed by the girls’ parents, and charges have been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
